Hankie Time

Pongo 1994-2007

I rescued a human today
(Author Unknown)

Her eyes met mine as she walked down the corridor peering apprehensively into the kennels. I felt her need instantly and knew I had to help her.

Sebastian 1990-2006
I wagged my tail, not too exuberantly, so she wouldn't be afraid. As she stopped at my kennel I blocked her view from a little accident I had in the back of my cage. I didn't want her to know that I hadn't been walked today. Sometimes the shelter keepers get too busy and I didn't want her to think poorly of them. Buster 1998-2003
As she read my kennel card I hoped that she wouldn't feel sad about my past. I only have the future to look forward to and want to make a difference in someone's life.
Ruby 1990-2004
She got down on her knees and made little kissy sounds at me. I shoved my shoulder and side of my head up against the bars to comfort her. Gentle fingertips caressed my neck; she was desperate for companionship. A tear fell down her cheek and I raised my paw to assure her that all would be well.

Peanut 1990-2002
Soon my kennel door opened and her smile was so bright that I instantly jumped into her arms. I would promise to keep her safe. I would promise to always be by her side. I would promise to do everything I could to see that radiant smile and sparkle in her eyes.
Ghillie 1976-1985
I was so fortunate that she came down my corridor. So many more are out there who haven't walked the corridors. So many more to be saved. At least I could save one.

I rescued a human a year ago today.

We had to get a boat load of hankies for the Mom and she is still sobbing.

We wish all cats and dogs had loving forever homes. Our Mom says we have brought so much love and joy into her life and she says we make her laugh. ~S,S & C

Momma was very sad but then we went over and reminded her that she is not lost because she has us.

And we sent a quiet "thank you" to Tasha for rescuing Momma and Dad 12 years ago.

Oh River, I have never read this before and am so very glad you shared it with us.

Isn't that the truth? I love nothing more than trying to imagine things from our (rescue!) dogs' perspective. This little story sums it up perfectly. Their point of view is such a gift if only we are open to seeing it.

Love,

We have read that before and it always gets us. We feel so sad about Booker still. He was a real heartbreaker. H-Mom has his photo on her phone as wallpaper, so she gets to look at him everyday.

WE've read that before but it sure was sadder reading it with the from-to dates on the photos. We assume the dogs were those who came before you?

I agree, this is a beautiful but sad blog entry. There is so much love represented from both the two-legged and four-legged beings.

That is a super neat poem! I tried to read it to the Mum here but she said stop and her eyes got wet...

Yes, those were some of the many many dogs my mom had before me. All rescues, some dumped by their owners, some found on the road like Pongo on a cold October night.

Your mom is very good to so many doggies. That made me very sad. I have to go lick someone. (Even though it had a happy ending)
