A sign of things to come

This is a sign.
This is a bad sign.

Not only does it say my mom is a lousy packer but it means she's GOING AWAY.
My mom explained that she is traveling with HER mom to see a Fantasy in Lights at Callaway Gardens and that it would only be 3 days. Three days? How long is that really?

Please don't go, Mom!!

Please???

Monday morning:

Scooby: Okay everyone she's gone! Great job distracting her, Riv. She totally forgot to put the goodie box back up.

PAWTAY!! THREE WHOLE DAYS!!

What the UPS guy brought

OMD!! Look at this box. I must be dreaming!

Look at Hootie just climbing right in and pawing at my stuff.

Then Bitey thinks he can have some goodies. I might share some if he asks nicely. It all stinks so good! Tennis balls, towels, and boxes and boxes of treats!

Oh yeah! I see what I want.

{Mom note: this is an incredible box of goodies from our friend Carol in NJ. She adopted 2 beagles from me: Twinkie and Sweet Pea. What a wonderful life they have. Thank you, Carol! We love you!!}

Black Friday

This is what we're doing on Black Friday. No shopping! Too crazy for my mom.

Can you find all the treadmills in the picture? Our backyard is a Treadmill Graveyard. My mom wears them out then what do you do with them? You put them in the backyard so doggies can use them as sundecks! I'm running to claim this one. See Scooby racing, too, just behind me.

I got dibs!! Scooby is mad. Haha, he was too slow.

Later I keep watch at the window.

Mom! Look! It's the UPS guy!

He's bringing us presents!!

Christmas Cards

My mom worked on a picture tonight for our Christmas cards. She said I wasn't very cooperative. I guess I wasn't in the mood for flashes.

She rejected this one. Too bright.

This one was too dark.

Then I moved again making it blurry and it looked like my head was on fire. Ack!!!

And then there was one that was JUST RIGHT.

You'll have to wait for that one! Esp. since she just sent off the order for cards with my snout on them.

Awards and the little Cracker is back

My mom shot some video of Graham playing but it's too dark. She comes home in the dark now so it's hard to get good pictures of us. She promises to do better on Saturday a day on which she is NOT on call and ISN'T transporting anything (although she just missed out on tranporting an English setter named Bill, someone else volunteered).

Thank you to our sweet friend
Addie who is now 9 months old for the multiple awards! Here they are:

And this last one from Addie and our beagle friends in Scotland the Dughallmor Beagles, thank you!!

Hankie Time

Pongo 1994-2007

I rescued a human today
(Author Unknown)

Her eyes met mine as she walked down the corridor peering apprehensively into the kennels. I felt her need instantly and knew I had to help her.

Sebastian 1990-2006
I wagged my tail, not too exuberantly, so she wouldn't be afraid. As she stopped at my kennel I blocked her view from a little accident I had in the back of my cage. I didn't want her to know that I hadn't been walked today. Sometimes the shelter keepers get too busy and I didn't want her to think poorly of them. Buster 1998-2003
As she read my kennel card I hoped that she wouldn't feel sad about my past. I only have the future to look forward to and want to make a difference in someone's life.
Ruby 1990-2004
She got down on her knees and made little kissy sounds at me. I shoved my shoulder and side of my head up against the bars to comfort her. Gentle fingertips caressed my neck; she was desperate for companionship. A tear fell down her cheek and I raised my paw to assure her that all would be well.

Peanut 1990-2002
Soon my kennel door opened and her smile was so bright that I instantly jumped into her arms. I would promise to keep her safe. I would promise to always be by her side. I would promise to do everything I could to see that radiant smile and sparkle in her eyes.
Ghillie 1976-1985
I was so fortunate that she came down my corridor. So many more are out there who haven't walked the corridors. So many more to be saved. At least I could save one.

I rescued a human a year ago today.

A Friend who needs help

This is our beautiful friend, Xsara. She is ill and she and her family could use everyone's prayers right now. Please visit her site and leave a note. We are howling for you, sweet girl.

Yesterday, my mom helped transport this pretty shepherd girl named Shaunna. She was going to Wisconsin to rescue. My mom said this was a dog who couldn't hold her licker, haha, my mom's so funny...not!

Thankful Thursday

So we're reading our friend's blogs and my mom starts playing the video of Snoop on the beach of the Dughallmor beagles and this is what happened at our house!

video

We howled along with Snoop. We are thankful for our faraway friends!

Petey went in to have his teef cleaned today. His mouth smelled really good--I don't understand the need for this. Esp. since it ALWAYS costs hundreds of dollars. Dog, how much kibble would that buy?? We are thankful he came through okay.

My mom called about Graham. He is doing well at the vet's. His operation was changed to tomorrow instead. She found out we ARE getting him back for a while so he's coming back Saturday. Well, he's not so bad. No, I don't actually miss him. We are thankful that he is alive and well.

Rosa is on her way to Connecticut. We are thankful that she has a home for the holidays!

I hope everyone has a good weekend. We'll be right here.

Good news (but sorta sad, too)

We have fostered Rosa for a while. There have been lots of applications for her and we've finally chosen a new home. She will leave Thursday (13th) for her new furever home. It's a family with older children, a good fit for so lively a little dog.

So tonight is our last night with her forever (sniff).

Here is everyone's favorite picture of that little stinkeroo Graham. Three rescues were all talking tonight about how much time has passed. That little crumb is 3 1/2 months old already! And how at one time my mom and the vet had thought to have him humanely euthanized because he was so sick with pneumonia. He is so strong now and runs and barks and eats like crazy. What an amazing miracle that he came back from the brink. He goes to the other rescue tomorrow, too. They will have him snipped on Thursday. Heh, well, I won't miss him. I'm kidding, I'm kidding...not.

Then we can go back to just Mom and me and our regular pack--which she says is anything from 5 to inifinity.
Maaaaaahuhuhuh-om!! How many is infinitee?

Sunday Sloths

This is our backyard now. Kinda dry but still pretty.

Most of us are just hanging out in the yard.I'm sitting on the deck with Mom.
We're at home doing nuthin' today. It's a true luxury for my mom. Doing nuthin'. Well, we're listening to some Irish ballads and singing along. I guess that's something.
Graham watches as Natalie leaps off the deck.

Graham still wants to jump off the deck like the big doggies but my mom won't let him.
Here's the driveway. A little more color, a lot less leaves because a big wind blew them away.
It is a calm, relaxing, pretty day and we're enjoying the heck out of it! Hope you all have a fine day too.

PeeEss--we have enough money for one of Clint's hips now!! Hooray!! Thank you to everyone who helped near & far!

100th post, a small memory and an award!

I've finally hit 100! 100 blog posts. I am very happy to have met so many furfriends from all over the world these past six months. Everyone is so full of love and creativity. It brightens our days to read your blogs.

For those who have not read my story in the very first blog, I will tell about it here. This is how I came to be with my mom.

I was rescued by a kind woman after a car hit me (not my mom, this was another someone).
I ended up in the emergency clinic called RIVER and that's how I got my name. My front leg was broken and they folded up newspapers and wrapped it up.
Meanwhile, the hospital called SOS Beagles. SOS Beagles called in a foster mom (my mom) and I went home with her one day. It was rough because I was so scared. I didn't know how to behave. I growled at everybody. But it wasn't too long before all the love they were trying to show me actually helped me feel better. My foster mom loved me so much she didn't want to give me up. She cried when I left.
She thought it was best for me since she already had so many beagles. After my leg healed, I went on a long trip to a new home. All the way to New Jersey.

My foster mom told SOS Beagles that if my first adoption didn't work out she absolutely wanted me back. She wanted me back!
Well, I must have heard that because that adoption really didn't work out. I growled a lot so they moved me to a foster home in New Jersey to wait for a ride back to my first foster mom.

My mom -- my first foster mom -- worked hard;she called and called and sent emails. She was scared they would send me somewhere else. She finally drove many miles to get me.

I wagged my tail as soon as I saw her--it was just like I never left! And when I got to the house--I danced around wagging my tail, happy to see everyone. I was back home. My foster mom was now my REAL mom.

She cried she was so happy. She knew, as did I, that we were meant to be together forever.

And to make today even more wonderful, my friend Dannon gave me an award. Thanks, Dannon! And from my friends, Holly & Zac!! Thank you!

Sunday--UPDATED (a little)

Today is a very pretty day, high 60s, sunny and peaceful. My nose is all better. I still can't say what really happened to it. Here is our driveway. Isn't it pretty? Leaves are just starting to turn here, although the dry weather makes the colors not quite as bright.
My mom waited too late in the day (too much shadow) but you can just see the darker blue part of the mountain through the trees.
Here is how dry our yard is--it's even killing the weeds that Daisy is wandering through.

Please notice that we have raised $4000 for Clint! He will have his operation in early December now.

UPDATE: We wanted to give a shout out to Robin L. Sidwell of Impressions by Robin. She is a professional photographer in New England who donated her time, expertise and fees to the Clint fund. She does some incredible work. Thanks, Robin!! It makes mom cry to think how wonderful people can be.

Also please remember to keep voting for the shelter that is sponsoring him For the love of Dogs. It is going to cost $9000 altogether. We can win $25,000 if we get enough votes. There is a purple button on the right you can click to get to the voting page. Thank you!!

Graham Fix!!
