Goodbye to Kelsey Ann

We had so much fun following The Kapp Pack with the Blogathon this past weekend (and won a prize)...and now just heard the sad news that they lost their Kelsey Ann. She was the sweet old matriarch of the pack. Please visit them and send them some hugs.

Scorchin' hot Sunday

We stayed up till 3 am reading the Blogathon blog entries. That was so much fun. The Kapp Pack raised a lot of money for MaPaw Siberian Rescue and we won a prize!! We won these rawhide chewies for correctly guessing the answer to a trivia question. Well, Peanut really won but he said they couldn't chew these rawhides because they were too small and I said WE CAN! WE CAN! OUR MOUTHS ARE SMALL!

So we slept in till 1pm! My mom can't believe nobody woke her up howling. But we feel really rested and refreshed. Outside it's HOTHOTHOT today. The sun is back out and the temp is climbing to the high 90s. AC is on today. Sasha cannot stand the heat so we have to think about taking care of her, of course.

The people associated with Double Dog Rescue asked my mom to create a blog page for a beautiful little labradoodle named Clint. This is a fundraising blog. Clint is 6 months old, a sweet, beautiful dog that was born with severe hip dysplasia. The operation is going to be $8-9000 to fix his hips. This is quite daunting but everyone is so in love with him that they want to do everything possible to give him a wonderful life. On our blog we are only going to ask for the money for one hip--which is about $4000. UTK vet school is giving us a discount on the operation. His surgery will be in October. The other hip will be fixed 6 months later. We will raise money for the other hip through other sources. The page isn't ready yet but when it is my mom will have me put a link on my page. My mom asked them to document in pictures everything about his life so we can see the progress and celebrate his successes.
Here is another coonhound my mom fostered. He went to Mutts4Rescue in Portsmouth, RI--he looks a lot like Booker, doesn't he?? My mom loved him and named him Dickens after a little beagle that we lost to parvo (one of Baby's babies, brother to Bitey and Beau). He did have a home but the home broke up--they loved him dearly. He went with the mom but the mom cannot keep up with the active lifestyle he needs so he was returned to the rescue. He is a sweet, gentle, good boy who is house and crate trained so if anybody up there in northeast US would like a coonhound this is your boy!! We totally vouch for him.

So, yeah, this is how we're retiring from rescue. HAHAHAHA NOT!

Our friend, Gus the Beagle, has a new brother! Welcome, OLIVER, to the world wide web of forever homes!!

Here's me. Yes, this is MY blog afterall, Mom !! First, I was chewing on a plastic cup, love those things! and then I climbed up in the freshly washed & dried blankets. There is nothing better than a blanket just out of the dryer!

Take a Beagle Break

We're resting today. It's been a hard week. Because of budget cuts at my mom's work she didn't know until this week that she would still have a job! She was not the one cut so now we can crash and relax. Next year there will be more cuts but we won't think about it today.

Today it is 82 degrees and my mom turned off the AC. It's sort of like a reverse eskimo--Eskimos think 15 degrees is HOT because they are used to much colder temps. We think 82 is COOL compared to 100 we've had lately. And it's cloudy.

We're watching movies and keeping up with the
Kapp Pack on the Blogathon. It's pretty exciting! Please help them out with a donation to MaPaw Siberian rescue.

And we're celebrating another whole year with Sasha! Her health is going downhill at a very slow pace. Her tumor is growing (they cannot operate on it--she literally died (twice) from the anaethesia but the vet got her back!). It's blocking her intestine little by little but with a diet that keeps her pooping like soft ice cream she is able to be comfortable. She is bright-eyed and happy, runs around barking and has a great appetite. There is no look in her eyes that says she feels bad. In fact, when my mom thought it was time for her to go to the Bridge several months ago, the vet said, Sasha was not ready yet!! Imagine that. It was July 26 last year that we found out about the tumor--so we've had her another whole year!

An award from Charlie Daniels

Look what my friend Charlie Daniels gave me!! Isn't it awesome? My mom is so proud. There are rules that come with it and I must post them:

Add the logo of the award to my blog
Add a link to the person who awarded it to me
Nominate at least 7 other blogs
Add links to those blogs on my blog
Leave a message for my nominees on their blogs.

I've done all those on the list. Instead of 7 blogs I'm going to nominate one blog with at least 7 animals and that would be Jan's Funny Farm. She has a beautiful group of cats and dogs.

AND, please notice my new clock to the right! My friend Oorvi had this beautiful beagle clock starring ME (don't you think it looks just like me??) made by his human Mercury. Thank you, Oorvi! Mercury is a brilliant artist.

What did Petey do?

We are watching Petey through the door (the door with dog nose goop on it so it looks blurry). Petey is howling at something in a bowl. He has been howling for 15 minutes. What could it be?

We move outside so we can figure this out.

Peeeeteeeey, what did you do?

He had trapped a salamander in the bowl. Mom took it out.
Run away, slimey little lizard!
It was stunned for a minute then it disappeared in a flash under the deck.

Storm!!

Well, it started out as a normal beastly hot day here in the South--99 degrees. Then my mom came home from work and she brought this terrible thunderstorm with her! Look at how dark it was:

Thunder boomed. Lightning flashed. Bitey started freaking out and howled, Let me hide in your lap, Mom!! Now!! He's about to smash her face, look out! BAM!!

Is this a crazed beast or what??!!

Scooby and Sasha ran into the linen closet. Baby hid behind my mom's chair. Summer shrieked at everydog, Get out of my way! I'm hiding behind the couch! And I'm sitting here next to my mom's chair wondering what in hayle is wrong with all these doggies? It's just a little noise and a whole lotta rain. All ya'll are chickens. Bawkbawkbawkbawk

Unspectacular Quirks Meme

Jan's Funny Farm tagged us to do the unspectacular quirks meme. These are the rules: Link to the one who tagged you. List the rules on your blog. Tell about 6 unspectacular quirks of yours. Tag some blogger friends with links. Leave a comment on their blog to let them know they've been tagged.

Here goes with my 6 brothers:

me, River--Whenever my mom takes a shower I have to steal her socks and carry them out to the living room.

Hootie--whenever he's in a cage he licks the bars constantly

Bailey--he growls when any dog comes within 3 feet of him--in our house it means he never stops

Mousse--he will eat only Beneful

Petey--always the last to come in

Davoo--barks at the chairs in the yard

Beau--creates a cocoon with his blanket and hides

Nothing too weird here. Of course, I didn't include the girls, hahaha. For this I will tag my friends Eduardo and Tatum Tot.

Tags

I have been very slow about getting to these but finally had some time!

A NAME tag from
Brandy the Great and Willow.

What is your name?
RIVER or REEver as my mom says

If you could change your name, what would it be?

Something like Savage Sam, yeah, that would scare off the bully beagles around here.

What is your pet's name (it can be a webkinz or a real pet)?
Georgia is my pet. She is crazy but I love her!

If you could change your pet's name what would it be?
call her SAVANNAH. That's hot.

What is your brother or sister's name?
brothers: Bitey, Beau, Davoo, Petey, Bailey, Mousse, Hootie & sisters: Daisy, Sasha, Belle, Baby and Summer.

If you could change their name, what would it be?
I would go with my mom's idea--a theme of some kind like music or mythology.

And I have to tag as many friends as letters in my new name, (Sam=3 letters) 3 doggies!

So, I tag
Oorvi, Bolo, and Goofy & Rudolph!

Have fun!

Pointers from Oz

My mom is a transporter. Not 'Beam me up Scottie' type because there were no scotties on this trip but click-your-sparkly-red-sneaker-heels-type to transport the Pointers from Oz.

These 4 pointers traveled by relay on Friday from shelters & fosters homes in southern Ga. to Atlanta and spent the night. They left early afternoon on Sat. My mom picked them up north of Atlanta and drove to mid-TN where she met the next relay human. The rescued doggies will spend the night in Oak Ridge then travel to Michigan on Sunday. So far, everything has worked very well.

As per usual, my mom who likes to talktalktalk to people blahblahblah only got a couple pictures. She almost forgot to transfer the paperwork. Whenever she is transfering dogs people in the parking lot come up and ask about the dogs and she tells them...and tells them...and....

Anyroad, here are the doggies:

Derek who was very good on the trip.

Augustus who did NOT like River but my mom told him to LAY DOWN and he listened.

Sherry, despite her recent operation, was a wild child. She chewed up everything she could get her snout into.
This is River. This is why my mom came out of transport retirement to drive--because of his name! He has a bad cherry eye but it will be fixed when he's neutered. When he wasn't bothering Sherry he was a very sweet dog. And pointers have such soft, downy fur.

Derek & Augustus getting ready to be walked. Notice TWO leashes. We don't take chances.

And, of course, I had to sniff all the new doggie smells when my mom got home!

But, Mom, I'm still your number one baby boy, aren't I?

Oh, yeah!

An award from Princess Eva and Brice!!

Princess Eva and Brice gave me the Cool Cat award!! Thank you all so much! This is especially cool because a perfect beagle has to have straight front legs and 'cat feet' at the end of them. We have CAT feet. I would think that'd be less than six degrees of separation, don't you? I have cat friends, too. I'm going to put up a picture of my friend Leo sometime. I'm going to pass this award to Jan's Funny Farm--she's a cool cat and has lots of cool cats and dogs and Jazz and Dixie who also have cool cat feet!

In other news, my mom leaves at 4pm today to transport 4 baby pointers--all under a year old. They will be traveling from southern Ga to a Michigan rescue called Pointers from Oz (funny name!). She drives the Ga to TN leg (most legs are around 100 miles). I can't go because there is no room in the Honda for me. My mom whines (she does) about not having a DUV but with gas so much higher now maybe it's okay NOT to have one. She will take pictures of the transport.
It's a sunny day here, going to be in the low 90s. I'm staying in most of the day.

An award from Mango, the Relentlessly Huge!!

Thank you, thank you, Mango for giving me the Arte-y-Pico award. This is so exciting and an honor because Arte-y-Pico means 'wow! the best art'.

I must post the rules for everyone:
1.) You have to pick 5 blogs that you consider deserve this award for their creativity, design, interesting material, and also contribute to the blogger community, regardless of language.
2.) Each award has to have the name of the author and also a link to his or her blog to be visited by everyone.
3.) Each award-winner has to show the award and put the name and link to the blog that has given her or him the award itself.
4.) Award-winners and the one who has given the prize have to show the link of the "Arte-y-Pico" blog, so everyone will know the origin of this award.
5.) To show these rules.

I would like to pass this on to five of my friends with terrific blogs: Kess, Toffee, Oorvi, Booker, and Gus the Blueman.

More Wallymelon, demand #4 and a bonus #8!

Yes, I admit. We beagles are highly bribeable. Our Alternate Name is FOOD. If our birth name doesn't work when Mom calls then FOOD gets us all back in a hurry.

Mom brought home this fine, sweeet wallymelon. It's even called dulcinea.

Yes! Yes! Yum! Very light and sweet, not a strong
flavor like the huge pickanick types.

And look!! I am inspecting the new waterbowls with matching ice cube trays! Demand #4 says ice cubes in all the waterbowls. Hurray!! We can do that now.

Demand #8 again! Personal cooling devices. Fans, fans, everywhere fans! And more in the trunk of the car. Eh, well, sometimes it takes days for my mom to move stuff into the house. But we are already feeling cooler.

The Mom Response

I love my mom, ya'll, but bless her heart she can be sort of 'earth to mom-ish' at times. I believe she has been thinking about our demands. I can see her head tilt like baroo? but being a human she says hmmmm. Then she tilts her head the other way and says, huuuuuuhhh.

We are fortunate it's been cooler here--10-15 degrees cooler so it's not so urgent at the moment to fulfill our demands. HOWEVER, I am not saying that outloud. While my mom was thinking this is what she did: SHE BURNT A TWINKIE.

OMD, did it stink!! She was warming up some hamburgers from our cook-out and didn't know (how could she not know?) that there was a twinkie hiding in the microwave. And she cooked it TWICE. Earth to mom!!!

We headed like crazy for the window to get some air!! We had to open all the windows and doors all for one stinkin' dead twinkie.

Later she went out to Wallyworld and bought this tiny little fan. She asked if I liked it and could that qualify for Demand #8? I sniffed it over. She wouldn't let me lift my leg on it to make it mine but I said it would do. Now she needs to go back and get 9 more! She flopped down in her Big Easy chair and huffed and said tomorrow.

Okaaaaay.

She did promise to try to get Handyman Phil out to fix the holey ducks this weekend. $200 a month on AC and the cold air's all going UNDER the house. Ack!! If it were up to me we'd be on those ducks like oily feathers!!

Beagles send their demands!

Tuesday, July 8, 2008

Dayyyyng, ya'll, it's HOT! Inside & out!

Davoo
Beau
Bitey
Perry

Velcro asked if it was hot here. It's 103 degrees and we're dyin' here in Georgia. Even in the house it's 85. Mom says she needs to fix the ducks under the house which have holes in them. Holey ducks? What is that--some sort of saintly fowl living under our house? I want to see!!

Because we are all suffering we have planned to stage a Mutiny of the Beagle and present our demands for beagle coolness by Friday. Stay tuned to see what happens!!

It's all mine!

I found it.
I killed it.
I dragged it all the way from the kitchen to my chair.
I shall now TEAR IT TO BITS!!
My work here is done!!
